Toledo, Ohio 2018 marks a significant milestone for Libbey, Inc. a business that is synonymous with the Glass City and has direct ties to the Toledo Museum of Art. This year commemorates 200 years for the glass manufacturing company, which began as the New England Glass Works Company in 1818 in Massachusetts. In celebration of Libbey's bicentennial, TMA and Libbey are collaborating on a limited-edition set of glassware now available for pre-order.
The four designs, created by Robert Zollweg, Global Design & Creative Director of Libbey Inc., are inspired by the Libbey Modern American series, and include a punch bowl, serving bowl, pitcher, and serving platter. Utilizing the traditional offhand glassblowing technique and blown out of clear glass with cobalt blue feet, the glassware is created by TMA Studio Glass Manager Alan Iwamura and his team in the Glass Pavilion Hot Shop.
The glassware sale coincides with the Museum's upcoming exhibition, Celebrating Libbey Glass, 1818-2018, debuting May 5 in the Glass Pavilion. The exhibition honors the 200th legacy of Libbey, Inc. and its tradition of excellence in glassmaking, highlighting glassworks from the company's beginnings to the present day.
The glassware is available for pre-order online and in the Museum Store, and objects will be made-to-order for one year. Purchase the entire set for $2,500; the punch bowl (with four cups) for $1,000; the pitcher (with for cups) for $750; the serving bowl for $450; and the serving platter for $450.
