Product Description

During the later periods of ancient Egyptian history, the cat was venerated as the sacred animal of the goddess Bastet. In rituals performed in her honor, mummified cats were buried within her temple precincts. The hollow bronze sculpture from which our correspondence card design is adapted dates from 33230 B.C., during the Ptolemaic Period, and served as the coffin for one such cat. The figure's sleek contours and dignified pose create a sense of majesty and controlled power.
